We created this site to hear your enhancement ideas, suggestions and feedback about AVEVA products and services. All of the feedback you share here is monitored and reviewed by the AVEVA product managers.

Scripting Add-in for Visual Studio Code

Developers working with AVEVA Application Server scripting currently rely on limited editing capabilities within the existing tools. This makes scripting less efficient, especially for larger or more complex scripts, and does not leverage modern development workflows.

This idea proposes an official Application Server Scripting add-in/extension for Visual Studio Code (VS Code) to enable a modern, powerful, and developer-friendly scripting experience.

Proposed Functionality

The VS Code add-in should support:

  • Syntax highlighting for Application Server script language

  • Code completion / IntelliSense for objects, methods, and attributes

  • Error detection and basic linting

  • Code formatting and readability improvements

  • Easy navigation (go to definition, find references)

  • Integration with existing AVEVA Application Server projects (open/edit scripts externally)

  • Optional support for version control workflows (Git-friendly editing)
