I have to aggree, the new UI Layout is measureabliy less efficient in our workflow. We are using InTouch 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2023 inside of virtual machines. Besides needing more clicks in 2023 as stated above, some keyboard shortcut don't work anymore (like Ctrl + w), while still beeing shown in tool-tips and documentation.
There is a scripts toolbar and a window & scripts toolbar. When having many windows and many scripts, it can be difficult to jump between windows. Adding that the scrollbar in the toolbar sometimes doesn't work (i have to click the root to reactivate it). So the only viable way to jump to the desired window is the search field, but that keeps the focus on the canvas, so while typing in my search i have to avoid all shortkeys und especially del-key. And when renaming a window the search results sometimes come as some cryptical string. The nameing of windows via the context-menu on canvas can destroys the name mapping. Existing windows don't show up in the tool-box tree. Sometimes the mapping of the ui can only be repaired by deleting the corresponding .json file in the project folder. (There are more inconsistencies between the "old maker" and the new UI put ontop e.g. you cab delete variables that are still in use )
The window-names of our older InTouch-projects contain blank spaces. Whilst this was no wise choise in the first place, upgrading to InTouch 2023 at first leaves the blanks in the names. When opening and saving them in InTouch 2023 the blanks are replaced with underscores - and all links to this windows have to be updated manually.
Undocking the toolbars and placing them on another monitor to have the full canvas to work with results in an unstable maker an vm crash, could be a vm-problem though.
On canvas when selecting one item, in previous InTouch versions it's position and dimensions could be manipulated in the status-bar. That even worked when more than one item was selected, , which was very fast and handy! If i now want to edit the size to a precice value, i have to go to properties toolbox, which takes the focus off the item on canvas. So i have to click on my item for every operation again, which slows the workflow and can be verry annoying, when several items are stacked on each other.
And can someone please update the DB Dump / DB load Windows 3.1 dialog!
This UI made the "first contact" surface flashy, but forgot about the productivity parts of my workflow?
Or is this too much muscle-memory from the previous versions on my part?
So maybe the new UI looks cooler, but for me also feels slower, and less productive.
Let's see what InTouch 2026 has to offer.
