We created this site to hear your enhancement ideas, suggestions and feedback about AVEVA products and services. All of the feedback you share here is monitored and reviewed by the AVEVA product managers.

Import tool between OPC UA Hierarchies and InTouch UDTs

  • OPC UA exposes full hierarchical structures, including data types, comments, and nested relationships.

  • This is conceptually similar to User Defined Types (UDTs), which also provide structured, named data types and hierarchies.

  • Currently, InTouch only supports importing OPC UA tags into Tagname Dictionary, which is flat, so it loses valuable context and hierarchy, and so the functionality is very limited.

So the idea is: Create an import (and mapping) tool for OPC UA hierarchy into UDT.

    A future version of InTouch will allow import of structured objects from OPC UA data sources. Such import will produce UDTs to match the OPC UA object types as well as instances to match the object instances in the OPC UA server.

    This feature is expected to be included with InTouch version 2026 as a natural evolution of the current OPC UA import feature.
