3D visual comparison

very often the 2d visual comparison can't show clear correlations between two parameters because of the influence of a 3rd parameter, a 3D visual comparison would show user clearly how signals are inter-correlated with a higher dimension.

a example shown in the attachment shows the X,Y signals first shows no correlation at all, however, after adding a 3rd parameter, it clearly shows that the 3rd parameter is stacked up in the 2d visual.

Adding a 3rd dimension would help to visualize the correlation. However, when dealing with several variables, how does one find the right combination of variables? Domain knowledge is critical. Would it make sense to let the system identify the best group of 3 tags with their correlation, and then have the user confirm those that make sense from those that don't?

Visually, we are limited to 3, would you foresee cases where 4 or more variables would be necessary?
