Change the IP address of a controller using a parameter for S7TCP and other protocols

For communicating with S7 controllers you would use PSDIRECT in the past. For this protocol the IP Address of the controller is in the backend configuration. For S7-1500 you can use S7TCP, this has the IP address in the Address field of the I/O Device.

After commisioning controllers get their final IP address. You have to modify the IP address, compile and deploy the project. This can take a while especially with big projects.

Can this be more flexible, for instance a device specific parameter. So the driver will use the IP address defined in this parameter.

The IP address is defined in different fields for different protocols:

  • MELSECQ : Special options field for the Port

  • MODNET : Special options field for the Port with -i

  • S7TCP : Address field of the I/O Device

For the Plant SCADA Servers you have the AddressForwarding parameters, something similar is also an option.
