Be able to see eg an icon on my IDE when someone else is deploying and when it is done.

I would like some sort of indication when someone else is busy deploying and also see once he is done. Instead of continuously trying to see if the other person deploy is finish or not. And maybe even then put my deploy in a que if there is another deploy going

    In the Control Software, we have implemented a "CS Activity Monitor" which is presented as an IDE window which tells you who is connected, from what machine (hostname) and what action they are doing (connecting to ide, deploy, upload, import etc...). Additionally, it allows you to send a message to a specific IDE session, like "I see you're deploy this, call me at 0123456789" and then it appears as a popup on the target session.

    This was particularly needed because we easily have 10-15 people working on a galaxy, and some operations may take hours and particularly with RDP Access (people not in the same room) and/or Direct Access operations (GR toolkit app to manipulate the Galaxy without IDE).

    While the idea is good, I think it is missing a bit of practicality in its implementation. The CS Activity monitor takes a whole IDE window, and, if/when you want to know if someone else is there, you need to click to show the window, meaning you trade something else from your workspace.

    In reality, you need this information only (mostly) when you're about to do an action (deploy, upload, sync, import etc). So, while the idea of having this table in a dedicated window is nice to have a complete overview of the system, I think we're missing the accessibility during product usage.

    I'd rather have that information before I'm about to do an action (Deploy, import, etc...). So I'd like to have the information in the Ribbon where those Actions buttons are, or dynamically added to the right-click menu, or at least before the Validation steps.

    The CS Activity Monitor was implemented as a Windows Service. Runs in the background. Retrieving the data in IDE is pretty fast (less then 100ms), if it would take more, it would give a "slow" feeling. In any case, we shouldn't wait more than 2 seconds to know if someone else is connected. It's not worth the wait.
