Analog field rawval should be replicated to non-owning sites

Client has observed that the ANALOG "rawval" field is not replicating to non-owning sites; and they expect this value to be replicated.


Anything else relevant to this feature?
There is an optional feature called the "Raw Data Enhancement" RAW_ENABLED and RAW_REPLICATION, which is turned off by default due to the impact on replication. Suggested that this be considered also for bringing into the FUNC rep. Would also need to ensure that this is versioned for upgradability. This was probably designed for a gas system which has significantly less IO than a liquids system.

The hybrid DSS does not solve this issue.


Why not simply edit the replication subscription?

Data replication will be triggered every single time, and it is more data to replicate than the functional replication that sends fewer fields.

This consumes lots of bandwidth to be consumed, and was determined to be a non-starter - it has been tried at other customers - they saw table locking and integrity update storms. For gas customers it might work. For liquids it likely wont. A PSR test would help to confirm. There have been many enhancements to replication since 2018/7.6 when this was last tried.

Operational Impact

During Point-Point testing, client has operators login to DSS system (non-owning). They use the rawval to confirm "Raw to ENGR" and "scaling".

How critical is this? how often do they need it?

Customer was upset when they found it. They didn't find it right away, but they may have changed their processes that increased the use of the DSS for this.

Customers are sensitive when they find what they feel might be a bug in replication. It is important to stress that this was a design decision at the time, and one which apparently hasn't stood up to the test of time as the use of the DSS continues to evolve.

    Is the request to add the rawval field to the funcrep subscription, so that it is sent to the non-owning in the least bandwidth-consuming way? Adding the single field to the subscription is not desired? Or is only needed temporarily?
